Court Convicts 25-Year-Old in Abduction and Rape of Minor, Imposes Fine of ₹50,000......
Chandigarh : A fast-track court in Chandigarh has sentenced a 25-year-old man to 20 years of imprisonment after finding him guilty of kidnapping and raping a minor. The court also imposed a fine of ₹50,000 on the accused.
According to the case details, the victim became pregnant as a result of the rape, and her pregnancy was terminated. The DNA report later provided crucial evidence to support the case. The defense argued that the accused had married the victim once she turned 18, following the conditions of his bail from the Punjab-Haryana High Court, and they now had a child together. Despite the victim withdrawing her statements in court, scientific evidence ultimately confirmed the accused’s guilt.
The case dates back to May 2019, when a complaint was filed under kidnapping, rape, and the POCSO Act at Sector-19 Police Station. The victim, living in a city colony, went missing after leaving for school with her brother one morning but did not return. Her family suspected the accused, leading to his arrest. During the medical examination, it was revealed that the victim was pregnant.
The court’s verdict brought an emotional scene in the courtroom as the victim (now the wife of the accused) was seen holding their child in her arms, visibly distraught.
