Young painters don’t need to imitate anyone: Sultana
New Delhi: Bangladesh’s well-known painter Rukaiya Sultana has encouraged the youth to take up painting as a career, saying that they do not need to imitate anyone and paint the way they understand the world.
She said, “today’s generation is very intelligent and talented. It doesn’t need to copy someone else’s painting. Today’s youth make paintings from their life experience. The way he sees things, the way he understands the world, in the same way he should paint. By doing this they will surely be successful.”
Rukaiya said, “I have made more than a thousand paintings so far. I used to spend time painting because of my fear. I used to paint after coming back from work. After reaching a stage of age, I felt some emptiness, so I made paintings to find my identity.
Another reason I write is to get rid of my fears. There is some fear in me, there is a sense of insecurity in me. I do not know what is this. I paint so that I can stay away from it.
Sultana said that all the promising and budding painters have to believe in themselves and make continuous efforts towards this field. In the modern era, they have the support of technology from which they can take help, but there is no shortcut to success. They have to keep learning continuously.
Sultana said that in her book ‘Ruqaiya Sultana’, she has preserved her 40 years of work in such a way that it will leave a mark on the minds of future generations for ages. He started painting in 1978.
Painter Sultana, who has touched various aspects of the art field closely, has brought international fame to the painting ‘Madonna and Child’.
This brought him to the top of the Himalayas, from where he is now ready to cover the whole world with his artistry. She was awarded the Bharat Bhavan International Print Biennial Grand Prize in 1992 for ‘Madonna in a Bus’. His work in the 90s was mostly done in aquatint, lithograph, dry point and soft ground. Her previous series of paintings and prints titled ‘Madonna and Child’ reflect her motherly spirit.
Referring to the relationship between India and Bangladesh, she told UNI that there is not much difference between the art and culture of the two countries. When it comes to food and drink, there is almost a similarity between the two. She said that she looks at all religions from one point of view, because everyone has their own importance in their own place, so it is our duty to respect everyone.
Sultana is becoming popular among the future generations associated with the arts and other fields through her exhibition at Delhi Lalit Kala Academy in this year 2022. His exhibition has been organized here from June 7 to 26, for which he is reaching here from different areas of the country.
