Work Begins on Sewage Treatment Plants in Dhilwan and Nadala with ₹17.49 Crore Investment
Government Allocates Rs 17.49 Crore for Two Major STPs to Improve Water Quality and Irrigation
Phagwara : The Punjab government has commenced construction work on two Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) at Dhilwan and Nadala, with a total investment of Rs 17.49 crore. The STP at Dhilwan is being built at a cost of Rs 6.99 crore, while the one at Nadala will cost Rs 10.50 crore.
The work was inaugurated by Advocate Harsimran Singh, the Aam Aadmi Party in-charge. The Dhilwan STP will have a capacity of 2 Million Liters per Day (MLD) and will address the sewage needs of approximately 10,000 residents. The water treated at Dhilwan will be used for irrigation, benefiting local agriculture.
Meanwhile, the STP at Nadala will handle 1 MLD of sewage and is expected to serve around 8,000 people. The treated water will be primarily used for irrigation, improving the town’s water supply and agricultural sustainability.
During the foundation-laying ceremony, Advocate Harsimran Singh emphasized the leadership of Local Government Minister Ravjot Singh, under whom development works in municipal councils and panchayats have been advancing rapidly. Singh also mentioned that work on the sewage line at Dhilwan is already completed, and additional infrastructure projects—such as streetlights and road improvements—will soon be underway in both Dhilwan and Nadala.
These STPs are part of the ongoing efforts to enhance urban sanitation and water management in Punjab’s smaller towns, improving the quality of life for residents and contributing to sustainable agricultural practices.
