Kapurthala : A massive fire broke out in the fields of Kapurthala, causing extensive damage to the standing wheat crop and stubble. According to reports, around 12 acres of ripe wheat crop and nearly 250 acres of dry stubble were reduced to ashes in the devastating blaze. The fire also destroyed a tractor that was parked in the field, adding to the heavy losses suffered by the farmers. The incident has caused widespread panic among the local farming community, as this is the peak season for wheat harvesting.
Eyewitnesses said the fire started suddenly and spread rapidly due to strong winds and the dry conditions of the fields. Farmers and villagers rushed to the spot to control the fire using water tankers and other equipment, but the flames were too intense to handle. Fire brigade teams were called immediately and after several hours of hard work, the fire was finally brought under control. However, by that time, a large part of the crop and stubble had already been consumed by the flames.
Initial investigations suggest that the fire may have been triggered by a spark from nearby machinery or an electrical fault. However, the exact cause is yet to be confirmed by the authorities. Loss estimation is underway, and officials are assessing the damage to provide possible compensation to the affected farmers. Farmers have expressed deep sorrow over the loss of their crops, which were almost ready for harvest and would have been a major source of income.
This incident has once again highlighted the risks associated with stubble burning and dry field conditions during the harvest season. Agricultural experts are urging farmers to adopt safer practices to prevent such disasters in the future. The administration has also issued an advisory asking farmers to be cautious during harvesting and to keep firefighting equipment handy in case of emergencies.
The local administration has assured that all necessary assistance will be provided to the affected farmers. They have also initiated awareness drives to educate farmers about fire safety measures to avoid similar incidents in the coming days. The community stands in solidarity with the affected families, hoping for quick relief and recovery from the tragedy.
