Punjab  : The Punjab Municipal Corporation Elections are underway today in five key cities—Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Patiala, and Fagwara. Voting started at 7 AM and will continue until 4 PM. In addition to the five municipal corporations, elections are also being held in 44 municipal councils across the state. Once voting concludes, the results will be declared the same day.

In Jalandhar, a total of 380 candidates are competing, while Patiala is witnessing elections in 45 wards. By 1 PM, voter turnout was recorded at 41%, with several areas like Amritsar and Rajpura showing varying levels of participation.

In Majitha, AAP and BJP candidates have faced political rivalry, with AAP’s candidate Jasveer Singh Jasla’s car being attacked by an independent candidate.
The polling process started slow in the morning, with only 5.4% turnout between 7 AM and 9 AM, but the pace picked up later. Tight security arrangements have been made at all polling centers, with over 2,000 police officers deployed.

The final vote count will begin post-polling, with results expected by 8 PM. Election officials have confirmed that all voting processes are proceeding smoothly, despite occasional incidents of tension at a few booths.
