NEW DELHI: German Vice Chancellor and Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate Action Robert Habeck, visiting India, urged democracies to take a stand on Russian aggression.

Habeck advised against giving Russia additional credit and money through sanctions because it would fuel its confrontation with Ukraine.

Europeans have never seen such Russian aggression on Ukraine. It wrecked the post-WWII European peace order. This event transformed Europe. I realise Europe is a bit far from Asia. “However, this is of such importance that I urge all the democracies worldwide to be clear in language and political position that this is not acceptable,” Habeck said, adding that countries should embrace the G7 oil price cap.

These remarks angered Russia. The German Vice Chancellor wanted to explore Russia-India collaboration. “He would do better if he focused on India-Germany relations as he was supposed to,” remarked Denis Alipov, Russia’s Ambassador to India.

Ambassador Alipov added that Germany has abandoned its autonomous security position in Europe, making its voice worthless in Ukraine.

Fairly, Germany isn’t independent. They follow the American master’s “jump” command. Russia-India relations are unbreakable by outside parties. “Indians love Russia,” Ambassador Alipov stated.

On Thursday, Habeck visited External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on his three-day tour to India.

We discussed the many new India-Germany partnership potential with Vice Chancellor Habeck. “We also discussed the Indo-Pacific and Ukraine conflicts,” Jaishankar said.

Habeck will attend the Goa G20 Energy Ministers meeting on his penultimate day.
