US warns of China-backed cyber threats

Washington: The United States is warning that China-backed cybercriminal groups are targeting major telecommunications companies, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) said.
“This joint Cybersecurity Advisory describes the ways in which People’s Republic of China (PRC) state-sponsored cyber actors continue to exploit publicly known vulnerabilities in order to establish a broad network of compromised infrastructure … The advisory details the targeting and compromise of major telecommunications companies and network service providers,” CISA said in an advisory on Wednesday.
This cyber activity has been occurring since 2020, the advisory said.
The National Security Agency, CISA, and the FBI urge US and allied governments, critical infrastructure, and private industry organizations to strengthen the defense of their networks against potential attacks from China-backed hackers, according to the advisory. (UNI)
