This price hike is aimed at incentivizing oil marketing companies to blend more ethanol into petrol, helping the government achieve its target of 20% ethanol blending by 2025-26. Currently, the blending rate stands at 15%. The government’s push for increased ethanol blending is part of efforts to reduce dependency on imported fuel and promote sustainable energy sources, with ethanol produced from sugarcane juice and molasses being key to the initiative.
