Prayagraj : At least 30 people were killed and 60 others injured in a tragic stampede near the Sangam Ghat in Prayagraj during the ongoing Maha Kumbh festival on the auspicious day of Mauni Amavasya. The incident occurred during the pre-dawn hours when a massive crowd rushed for the holy dip. As barricades were breached, many devotees were trampled, leading to the loss of lives and several injuries. The injured were immediately rushed to the hospital, with 36 individuals still receiving treatment.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered a judicial inquiry into the stampede, with a three-member panel headed by retired judge Harsh Kumar to investigate the causes behind the tragedy. To prevent further chaos, the state government suspended all VIP privileges for the remainder of the holy bathing days, including Basant Panchami Snan, Maghi Purnima Snan, and Maha Shivaratri Snan.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences for the lives lost and assured that relief and rescue operations were underway. He monitored the situation closely, speaking to CM Yogi several times.
