Bachchan family figures in infamous Panama Papers leaks
New Delhi, Dec 20: Actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was questioned for almost six hours on Monday in connection to shell entities revealed by the Panama Papers leak.
She reached the Enforcement Directorate office at the Jamnagar House here in the afternoon just after 1.30 pm.
The actress was issued notice to join the ED probe.
The officials wanted to question the actor, after she missed two summons in connection with the Panama Papers that exposed huge amounts of money kept by the super rich in secretive offshore entities.
Sources said she had sought time on two occasions and filed plea for adjournment to the multi-agency special investigation team.
The former Miss World left the central probe agency’s office around 7 pm. Sources said she faced a long list of questions.
The Panama Papers are 11.5 million leaked documents that were published in 2016 detailing financial and attorney-client information for 214,488 offshore entities.
The Bachchan family has been issued notices to explain their involvement in foreign remittances since 2004.
