1714 – An idea for a possible typewriter predecessor was patented by Englishman Henry Mill, but he never succeeded in perfecting his invention and it died with him.
1818 – Maratha State of Holkar’s in Central India (Indore) annexed with Rajput states and placed under the British protection. Holkar’s ruled the state between 1732-1818 and did great services at the Hindu religious places.
1838 – Samuel Morse, with his partner, Alfred Vail, gave the first public demonstration of their new invention electric telegraphic system.
1842 – 4,500 British and Indian troops leave Kabul, massacred before reaching India. (Following an uprising in Kabul, Major General Sir William Elphinstone negotiated an agreement with Wazir Akbar Khan, one of the sons of the Afghan Emir Dost Mohammad Barakzai, by which his army was to withdraw to the British garrison at Jalalabad, more than 90 miles away. As the army and its numerous dependents and camp-followers began its march, it came under attack from Afghan tribesmen. Many of the column died of exposure, frostbite or starvation or were killed during the fighting (Pic credit-Britannica).
1851 – The rotation of the Earth was discovered by Leon Foucault, the Ftrenvch physicist who is also known for his works of Earth’s gravity and pendulam.
1929 – Mother Teresa arrives in Calcutta to begin a her work amongst India’s poorest and diseased people.
1930 – 1st diesel engine automobile trip (in a Packard sedan) completed.

1947 – All India Congress Committee accepted the division of country.
1954 – First frozen meal of the “TV Dinner” type was successfully sold across the U.S.
1989 – Satwant Singh and Kehar Singh are sentenced to death for conspiracy in the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
1993 – India and Bhutan sign agreement on the giant Sankosh hydro-electric project.
2023 – New Study discovers ancient Roman concrete is stronger than modern concrete because of the use of a hot mixing technique, with quicklime that self-healed any cracks over time.

Born…. 1913 – Loretta Youbng, American actress, started as child artist in 1917 and acted until 1953, she won an Academy Award, 2 Golden Globe and 3 Primetime Emmy awards apart from several other accolades.
1959 – Kapildev Ramlal Nikhanj, India’s finest all-rounder 1978-94, who captured World Cup ODI Cup 1983 as Captain with his mesmarising batting and bowling. He waas awarded Padam Shri in 1983, Padam Bhushan in 1991 and adjudged Wisdon Indian Cricketer of the Century, Wisdon Cricketer of the Year 1983. He also won ICC’s Hall of Fame in 2010 and CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement award in 2013 (pic credit-Daily News).
1966 – AR Rahman, popular mudsic composer, song-writer, singer and producer. Born as Arunachalam Dilip Kumar Mudaliar in Chennai has worked in Tamil and Hindi films. He came into prominence with Slumdog Millionaire’s song Jai Ho in 2008. He has won 6 National Film Music, two Oscars, 2 Grammy, a BAFTA and several Filmfare awards from over 145 films in 30 years long career (pic credit-Filmbeat).
1984 – Diljit Dosanjh. Popular Punjabi and Hindi singer, actor and producer. He has acted in Udta Punjab, Jatt & Juliet- series 1-3, Crew, Good Newzz, Amar Singh Chamkila etc. Has won PTC Punjabi awatrds 5 times and nominated for several other accolades.
RIP…. 1885 – ‘Bhartendu’ Harishchandra. Legendary Indian poet, dramatist, novelist and philosopher called ‘Father of Modern Hindi’. His works Vaidik Himsa Na Bhavati, Bharat Durdasha, Satya Harishchasndra etc. were aclaimed writings.
1987 – Jaidev, legendary music director, who started in 1961 with Hum Dono. Mujhe Jeene Do, Reshma aur Shera, Do Boond Paani, Prem Parbat, Gaman, Gharaounda, Kinare Kinare, Tumhare Liye, Alaap, Aankhen etc. He won National Film award 3 times and Filmfare 6 times.
You may have known….India is the second largest producer of fruits and vegetables in the world after China, but China’s fruit production is three times India’s production. India’s fruits production was over 110.21 million tons in 2022-23.
