1922 – The first really successful Technicolor motion picture film ‘The Toll of the Sea’ was released.
1926 – Detective novelist Agatha Christie mysteriously disappears for 11 days.
1955 – Orders were issued for the use of Hindi language in addition to the English language for specific purposes of the union.
1967 – First Heart transplant took place. The recipient, Washkansky lasted only 18 days before succumbing to double pneumonia.
1971 – Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 starts on Eastern Front.

1984 – Bhopal gas leak occurred. Over 500,000 suffered from acute breathlessness, pain in the eyes and vomiting as they ran in panic to get away from the poison clouds. 3,000 died.
1989 – Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev and US President George H. W. Bush, declare the Cold War over.
1992 – The first SMS was sent.
2018- David Attenborough warns collapse of civilisation and the natural world on the horizon at UN climate summit in Poland.
2019 – Sundar Pichai becomes head of Google and Alphabet. Madurai (India born Sunderarajan Pichai) is Materials Engineer and IT Professional is in the news recently for a defamatory video (Pakhandi Baba Ki Kartut), put up on Google platform and High Court notices on it.

1884 – Dr Rajendra Prasad, first President of India. Born in Siwan (Bihar) he was a freedom fighter, journalist, member of Indian Congress and was President of the Constituent Assembly of India. Was honoured with Bharat ratna in 1962. (pic credit -ShutterStock).
1889 – Khudiram Bose, born in Midnapur (WB), famous revolutionary and freedom fighter of Muzaffarpur Bomb Case, who was hanged by the British at a young age of 18 years only..
1971 – Jimmy Shergill, model and Bollywood actor.Known for roles in Punjabi and Hindi movies like mail Karade Rabba, Dharti, Aa Gaye Munde UK De, Jhootha Kahin Ka, Judgemental Hai Kya, Collar Bomb, Double XL, Phira Ayee Hasseen Dilruba etc. Has won one each of Producers Guild, Filmfare and PTC Punjabi Films awards.
1979 – Konkana Sen Sharma, daughter of popular Bengali and Bollywood film personality Aparna Sen, Konkona has acted in seval hit films like Page 3, Omkara, Akira, Lipstick Under My Burkha, The Rapist, Kuttey, Life in A Metro, Gulel, Traffic Signal, Mr. & Mrs. Ayer etc. She has won 2 National awards, 2 Filmfare, IIFA, Zee Cine, Guold And Screen awards

1979 – Major Dhyan Chand, famous master of Hockey, expert dribbler of hockey ball who won India Gold in 3 Olympics Amsterdam (1928), Los Angeles (1932) and Berlin (1936), and Padma Bhushan awardee. He was offered German citizenship by Chancellor Adolf Hitler in 1936 but Major Dhyan Chand declined.
2011 – Dev Anand (Dharamdev Pishorimal Anand) evergreen and most popular romantic Bollywood actor, director, producer, who was judged No. 1 by film industry for 16 times. Known after debut role in Hum Ek Hain (1946), and later CID, Baazi, Gambler, Kala Bazaar, Hum Dono, Guide, Jewel Thief, Johney Mera Naam , Hare Rama Hare Krishna, etc. Has acted in over 110 films, the last being Chargesheet in 2011. He won several Filmfare, Stardust, Zee Cine and National film awards and honored with Padam Bhushan in 2001 and top cinema Dada Saheb Phalke award in 2003.
