1887 – A patent for the adding machine was granted to Dorr Eugene Felt of Chicago. (His Comptometer was the first practical key-driven calculator with sufficient speed, reliability and economic benefit. He called his original prototype the “Macaroni box”).
1939 – Albert Einstein informs FDR of possibilities of atomic bomb.
1962 – Chinese, Indian troops clash on border, claiming 50 lives.
1983 – The last hand-cranked (magneto) telephone in US went out of service.
1986 – Mother Teresa escapes unhurt from a plane crash which killed six in Tanzania.
1990 – Libya’s Qadhafi says Israel must be eliminated.
1991 – Government in UP acquires the disputed Ayodhya land.
2018 – World’s new longest flight flies from Singapore to Newark Airport, New Jersey takes 17 hours 52 mins.

1902 – Jayaprakash Narayan, also called JP or Lok Nayak, an Indian thinker, politician who led agitation against PM Indira Gandhi from 192-75 and brought in Janata Party to power in 1977. Though he didn’t lead the govt or party, that led to its fall in 1980. JP was awarded Bharat Ratna in 1999 posthumusly (pic credit-Wikipedia).
1941 – Amitabh Bachchan, son of Hindi/Urdu poet Harivash Rai Bachchan. Amitabh struggled in Indian film industry, until the angry youngman image put him in ilmelight from film Zanzeer. Later on Namak Haram, Deewar, Mukaddar Ka Sikander, Trishul, Abhimaan, Shahnshah, Agnipath, Bhootnath, Sarkar etc. established him in the industry. He is also known for Chupke Chupke, Anand for different roles. He won 4 National Awards, Filmfare and 3 Padma awards upto Padma Vibhushan in 2015 and French topcivilian award Knoight of the Ligion of Honour in 2007. (pic credit-Pxfuel).
1965 – Ronit Bose Roy, Bollywood actor. Brother offilm actor Rohit Roy. Known for Telugu, Bengali and Hindi films like Jaan Tere Naam, Kaabil, Kehne Ko Hamsafar and TV serials Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kasauti Zindgi Kay, Adalat and Itna Na Karo Mujhe Payaar etc. Has won Star Screen, Zee Cine, and a Filmfare award for support role in Udaan.
1968 – Chandrachur Singh, Bollywood and TV actor, comes from a Royal background. Known for films like Maachis, Tere Mere Sapne, Josh, Daag, the Fire and TV serials like Saavdhan India, Aarya, Dil Bekrar etc. Has won IIFA, and Screen and Filmfare award as Best Debutant in Maachis.
1993 – Hardik Pandya – Energetic Indian Test and ODI all-ronder. Captained Gujart Titans and Mumbai Indians in IPL.

1889 – James Presscott Joule. English physicist, who established that the various forms of energy – mechanical, electrical, and heat – are basically the same and can be changed, one into another form . 2002 – Dina Pathak, fashion designer and Bollywood actor, known for character roles in Saara Akash, Atmanand, Mohan Joshi Hazir Ho, Passage to India, Anokhee, Devdas, Khoobsoorat, Gol Maal, Aaina, Raksha Bandhan. Also acted in a Bollywood film Passage to India. Won Danget Natak Akademy Award, Indian Telly award etc.

Marwari Wedding: Pithi Dastoor is one of the cardinal pre-wedding ceremonies which continues until the wedding day.
