1896 – The first x-ray photograph in the U.S. taken by Dr. Henry Louis Smith. It showed the location of a bullet in the hand of a corpse, using a 15 minute exposure (pic credit-Wikipedia).
1912 – Gopinath Saha. India freedom fighter, revolutionay, who established Hindustan Republican Army alnogwith other revolutioneries. He attempted to kill British secret service agent Charles Teggart on Jan. 12, 1924.
1908 – A wireless message was sent long-distance for the first time from the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
1937 – The first U.S. patent for a submarine cable plow was issued. It was designed to feed a cable at the same time that it would dig a trench in the ocean bed. The device could be used at depths up to a half mile.
1948 – Mahatma Gandhi begins his final fast.
1990 – Upper age limit for Indian Civil Services Examination raised from 26 to 28 years.
1996 – Supreme Court holds that horse racing is not gambling, but a game of skill.
2021 – Supreme Court puts on hold three controversial new farm laws that ignited weeks of protests by farmers in Delhi.
2024 – “Wokery”, “safe word”, “forever chemical” and “swear box” added to the latest update of the Oxford English Dictionary.

Born…. 1399 – Kritiwas Ojha, writer of Ramayana in Bengali language in about 5,000 verses while Balmiki Ramayan has 24,000 verses.. Kritiwas (1381-1461) was a Bengali poet, writer and spitual mentor, religious speaker.
1863 – Swami Vivekananda, (Narendra Vishwanath Dutta), dynamic renaissance missionary to West, catalyst of Hindu revival in India and social reformer. He was a a saint, philosopher, author, and prominent disciple of Swamy Ramakrishna.
He addresses World Religeous Congregation in Chicago in 1893 and mesmirised the audience with his eloqence and highlighting the basic principle of Vasudhev Kutumbkam of Indian culture. (pic alongside is a memorial in Bay of Bengal). This day is celebrated as National Youth Day since 1984.
1918 – . C Ramchandra (Chitalkar), famous film music director. His classic music rendition for films Subah Ka Tara, Azad, Anarkali, Anchal, Aastha, Amar Rahe Ye Pyar, Ahinsa, Albela, Amardeep, Rutha Na Karo etc. He won 8 National Film Awards and 40 State
awards.
1972 – Priyanka Gandhi, Congress politician, daughter of former PM Rajiv Gandhi. She had been earlier active in Uttar Pradesh politics and now has won Lok Sabha election from Vayanad Kerala.
1973 – Sakshi Tanwar, TV serial and film actor. She has acted in Balaji Tele serials like Bade Achhe Lagte Hain, Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki, Tyohaar Ki Thaali etc and films like Dangal, Sharmaji Ki Beti, Mohalla Assi, Dial 100, Ghar Ki Murgi etc. She has won many awards like ITA, Indian Telly, Star Parivar awards.

1992 – Kumar Gandharva (Shivputra Siddharamaiya Komkali), famous Indian Classical vocal singer with typical style. He was awarded Padam Bhushan in 1977.
2005- Amrish Puri. Legendary Bollywood villain, known for roles in Indian Jones and the …, Manthan, Nishant, Mr. India, Karan Arjun,Nayak, Gadar, Hulchal, Diljale etc. He won three Filmfare, Screen and other awards.
You may have known….
In the past when governments have taken away land from farmers, for any community purposes, they have not been adequately compensated. Neither have they been re-skilled so that they can take on other professions.
Now rules are in place to give farmers a reasonable compensation and alternative land nearby, to resume their cultivation activities.
