1781 – A treaty was signed between the Britishers and ruler of Gwalior, Scindia.
1860 – First successful aerial photograph in the US was taken. (Credit for the first aerial photograph goes to French author and artist Felix Tournachon aka Nadar. He captured the first aerial photo from a balloon tethered over the Bievre Valley in 1858, though his work is lost).
1868 – Thomas Edison executed his first patent of an “Electrographic Vote-Recorder.” (His idea remained unappreciated. Thus, his first patented invention was, in effect, a failure. His next invention was a Printing Telegraph).
1884 – Greenwich established as universal time meridian of longitude. (All longitudes are calculated both east and west from this meridian up to 180°; a universal day).
1953 – Burglar alarm-ultrasonic or radio waves-patented by Samuel Bagno.
1978 – Maharashtra branch of Forward Block Party merged in Indira Congress.
1987 – First military use of trained dolphins by US Navy in Persian Gulf. Military dolphins have been trained to rescue lost naval swimmers or to locate underwater mines.
1989 – Panchayati Raj and Nagarpalika Bills defeated in Rajya Sabha.
2013 – 109 people are killed in a stampede on a bridge in Datia district, Madhya Pradesh.
2017 – Archaeologists announce the discovery of Arabic characters “Allah” and “Ali” on Viking funeral costumes from a grave in Sweden.

1240 – Razia Sultan, first lady ruler of Delhi’s Slave dynasty. The daughter of Iltumish, she occupied the throne between 1236-40 and was murdered by Turks.

1987 – Kishore Kumar (Abhas Kumar) Ganguly, most versatile, singer. sctor, comedian and music director. Sang in Hindi, Bengali, Marsath and several other languages. Acted in 71 films ike Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi, Jhumru, Door Gagan Ki Chhaon Mein, Fantoosh, Paying Guest etc. He also directed 18 films and sang for Devanand, Rajesh Khanna and Anitabh Bachchan. He was awarded Filmfare 8 times, national awards and one Lata Mangeshkar award..

Pahari Wedding: Most pahari weddings are done withy vedic customs. Bride and
Groom are carried in a palanquin (Palaki) fromboys home to bride’s place. After marriage she is carried in a curtained palanquin. Shehnai and Dhol are part of the band procession. On the day of the wedding, a ceremony called Dhulyaraj is performed in which the groom is received.
