TMC team including 2 WB mins arrive Tripura to oversee I-PAC team detention

Agartala, Jul 28 (UNI) Aggrieved with the detention of 23 members of Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) of poll strategist Prashant Kishore for two days in a city hotel here, three leaders of Trinamool Congress comprising West Bengal Education Minister Bratya Basu, Law Minister Moloy Ghatak and it’s trade union Chief Ritabrata Banerjee arrived here Wednesday morning on a three-day political visit.
Talking to media on arrival at the airport, they alleged that democracy in Tripura has been bulldozed by Biplab Kumar Deb-led BJP government in Tripura where independent professional research team were kept house arrest for two days in a hotel in the most unconstitutional manner.
“Nowhere in the country, fellow Indians are treated like prisoners for no reason in a hotel. The country is shocked to see the autocratic attitude of a democratically elected government. Tripura police had detained the members of I-PAC team most illegally to satisfy their political bosses but Trinamool Congress would not leave it here by just condemning the incident,” the ministers said.
They pointed out that after the last assembly elections in 2018, democracy has been stolen where fundamental rights of the citizens were snatched. Thousands of opposition supporters have been tortured, several people got murdered and houses were burnt down by the ruling party cadres after BJP took over the government.
The privacy of citizens have been snatched away by the BJP government in the country against which Trinamool supremo called the nation to be united to oust the undemocratic, communal and autocrat government from power in the 2024 general elections, they stated.
“Now the government has targeted the independent professional research organisations like I-PAC out of fear. The freedom of speech and expression, right to move freely and to pursue the profession independently have become a challenge in Tripura today. BJP leaders in West Bengal raising false allegations against ruling Trinamool just to suppress their undemocratic and anti-people activities in BJP ruled states of the country,” said minister Basu.
He further stated that Trinamool congress supremo Mamata Banerjee has undertaken the task to unmask the cruel and inhuman face of BJP government across the country and added, “We will stay here for next three days to do our organisational activities and to interact with I-PAC team who have come to Tripura last week to do ground work for Trinamool Congress.”
“During the stay here we will assess the situation and interact with our local leaders and report to our supremo,” he said, adding that people of Tripura have been in suffocation due to misrule of BJP. There is no employment, no up-gradation of health and education infrastructure in Tripura and the situation is deteriorating everyday and people are waiting for Didi (Mamata Banerjee) to get relief.
