Tirupati Stampede: Andhra CM Naidu to Visit Injured Today

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is set to visit Tirupati on Thursday to meet the injured victims of the tragic stampede that claimed six lives and left over 40 injured. The incident occurred on Wednesday night when devotees scrambled for tickets to the Vaikunta Dwara Darshanam at the Lord Venkateswara Swamy temple on Tirumala Hills.

The CM will visit SVR Ruia Government General Hospital and SVIMS Hospital between 12 PM and 3 PM to meet the injured and assess their treatment. Additionally, he will conduct a review meeting with the Executive Officer and officials to discuss the incident and preventive measures.

The stampede, which took place at Bairagi Patteda near MGM School in Tirupati, saw hundreds of devotees struggling for limited tickets. Five of the deceased were women, and one was a man, with victims hailing from Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.

Chandrababu Naidu expressed deep grief over the incident in a post on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), mourning the loss of lives. Telangana CM A Revanth Reddy also conveyed his shock and urged for better medical care for the injured.

The stampede occurred as devotees gathered ahead of the 10-day Vaikunta Dwara Darshanam festival, commencing January 10. Authorities are under pressure to manage the massive influx of devotees during this period.
