Thousands paid obeisance at Charar-e-Sharief on annual Urs

Srinagar: Annual Urs of Sufi saint Shaikh Noor-ud-Din Noorani (RA) popularly known as “Alamdare Kashmir” being celebrated with religious fervor and gaiety all across the Kashmir valley on Sunday.
Thousands of devotees including men, women and children descend to Charar-e-Sharief in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Sunday to pay obeisance at the Mausoleum of the Sufi saint on the occasion.
Thousands of devotees had gathered at the shrine to observe congregational night long prayers or “Shab Khawani” on Saturday during which special prayers were offered for the peace and prosperity of Kashmir valley.
Shaikh Noor-ud-Din, commonly known as Shaikh-ul-Aalam, Nund Rishi, Alamdar-e-Kashmir, Taj-ul-Awliya (the crown of saints of Kashmir) taught people the principles of simplicity truthfulness, justice, love, and service of humankind. He preached people of the fear of God and accountability before Him after death. He taught that a true saint is not one who escapes from life but one who does the duties of life honestly.
Jammu and Kashmir administration and the Waqf Board had made elaborate arrangements for the convenience of the devotees. The administration has also set up medical facilities and police personnel were deployed in strength to manage the traffic on the occasion. (UNI)
