Punjab : The temperature in Punjab has dropped significantly as intermittent rainfall continues across the state. The sudden change in weather has brought relief from dry conditions but has also increased the winter chill. The Meteorological Department has reported that rain is expected to persist for the next 24 to 48 hours, leading to further cooling.

Several districts, including Ludhiana, Amritsar, Patiala, and Jalandhar, have experienced moderate to heavy showers over the past few days. The cold winds accompanying the rainfall have intensified the winter feel, prompting residents to bring out their warm clothing earlier than expected. Farmers have welcomed the rain as beneficial for rabi crops, especially wheat and mustard, which require adequate soil moisture at this stage.

However, the continuous rain has also caused disruptions in daily life. Waterlogging in some low-lying areas has slowed down traffic, while dense cloud cover has reduced visibility on highways. Transport services, including trains and flights, have reported minor delays due to unfavorable weather conditions.

The Meteorological Department has advised residents to stay prepared for further temperature drops and chilly winds. Authorities have also cautioned against fog formation in the coming days, which could affect early morning travel. Schools and offices are witnessing a rise in winter clothing as people brace for colder days ahead.

For many residents, the rainfall has provided a pleasant break from pollution, as the showers have cleared the air and improved air quality levels in major cities. Experts have noted a significant reduction in air pollution, which is usually a concern during this season.

Meanwhile, shopkeepers selling winter essentials such as woolen clothes, heaters, and hot beverages have seen an increase in demand. Tea stalls and food vendors are experiencing higher footfall as people look for ways to stay warm in the chilly weather.

With rains expected to continue, the state administration has urged people to stay updated on weather forecasts and take precautions while traveling. The wintry conditions are expected to persist, making it one of the earliest cold waves of the season in Punjab.
