Kabul, Aug 15 (UNI) The Taliban flag was raised atop the Afghan Presidential Palace on Sunday night as the fundamental militia entered the palace, with President Ashraf Ghani having left the country, signaling the collapse of the government.
Meanwhile, news websites said that the Taliban have declared Maulana Abdul Ghani as Afghanistan’s new President.
“Maulana Abdul Ghani declared as Afghanistan’s new President,” said The Nation as well as some other sites.
Videos on social media showed the Taliban enjoying the comforts of the lavish presidential palace. Attired in shalwar-kameez with Kalashnikovs by their side, the Taliban were seen seated on the luxurious gold-framed and satin-cushioned chairs and divans, helping themselves to food.
In a press conference, the Taliban said that their fighters have taken control of all government headquarters in Kabul.
One photo showed the Taliban removing the Afghan government flags from the presidential palace.
The Taliban have announced they will declare an Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.
