Moga: The Moga police have successfully busted a gang of highway robbers, arresting all five members, including a suspended constable.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Kuldeep Singh (alias Akash), Gurmukh Singh (alias Bhola), Ravinder Singh (alias Ghoda), Harpreet Singh (alias Happy), and Kamalpreet Singh (alias KP), a suspended Punjab Police constable from Daudhar Sharki village.
Kamalpreet had been absent from his duties at the Central Jail in Bathinda for two months and was suspended shortly before his arrest. According to police sources, the gang was responsible for multiple highway robberies in the region. A detailed investigation, including surveillance, led to the suspects’ arrest, with police recovering two stolen motorcycles and four mobile phones.
Moga DSP Anwar Ali confirmed that the gang targeted travelers at isolated spots on highways. The investigation revealed that the suspects, motivated by drug addiction, committed these crimes to fund their habits. The gang members were produced in court and remanded to police custody for further interrogation.
Kamalpreet Singh, who was initially hired on compassionate grounds, now faces charges along with the others involved in the robberies.
