Supreme Court to Hear PIL Challenging Election Commission’s Decision to Increase Voter Numbers per Booth
New Delhi : The Supreme Court will hear a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) challenging the Election Commission’s decision to increase the maximum number of voters per polling booth from 1,200 to 1,500. The Election Commission had issued this order in August 2024, which affected polling stations across the country.
The PIL was filed by Induprakash Singh, who argues that the Election Commission’s decision is arbitrary and not based on any rational data. The petition will be heard by a bench consisting of Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar.
Earlier, on October 24, the Supreme Court had refused to issue a notice to the Election Commission on the matter but allowed Singh to provide a copy of the petition to the Commission’s permanent lawyer to hear its side of the issue.
