Gangtok, March 26: Sikkim Governor Ganga Prasad flagged off Walkathon organized by Food Safety and Standards Authority of India on Saturday. Later, state Health Minister MK Sharma also launched the ‘Eat Right Mela’ at the MG Marg. Sharma, in the most enlightening speech, encouraged the students present at the program to adopt healthy & safe food habits and spread the word as well. ‘Let’s eat the right food to prevent preventable diseases. Food should be safe from the point of view of health. Our food should be sustainable, if not we are apt to invite non-communicable diseases, like BP and Sugar and many more. There are many people suffering from these, so Govt has introduced the policy encouraging eat well,’ said Minister MK Sharma. Neeraj Thapa, Joint Commissioner, Food and Drug Administration, stated it is a campaign carried out while the 75@ Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ goes on. Prominent among those present included DG-cum -Secretary Health PT Bhutia, District Commissioner cum Secretary Health D. Anandan, DC K Ragul Deputy Mayor Pema Bhutia and Rinchen Wangyal SKM. (UNI)
