RSS Leader Pandit Jagannath Sharma Dies in Kullu, Donates Body for Research at AIIMS
A life dedicated to public service, Pandit Jagannath Sharma leaves behind a legacy of simplicity, service, and selflessness.
Kullu-Bilaspur: Pandit Jagannath Sharma, a senior leader of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the first Prant Sanghchalak of Himachal Pradesh, passed away on Tuesday night at 2:30 AM in Bhuntar, Kullu. Before his death, he had expressed his wish to donate his body for medical research, which his family fulfilled by donating his body to AIIMS Bilaspur on Wednesday at 12:30 PM.
Born on June 27, 1927, in Amarpur village of Bilaspur, Pandit Sharma received his early education at Sir Butler High School in Shimla, followed by matriculation from George Vijay High School in Bilaspur in 1944. In 1946, he passed the Faculty of Science exam at DAV College Lahore. He joined the RSS in 1941 and played a pivotal role in the Punjab Relief Committee during the partition, helping thousands of Hindus safely migrate to India.
Pandit Sharma held significant positions in the RSS, including the Prant Sanghchalak of Gurdaspur district, Amritsar, and Himgiri prant, and served as Himachal Pradesh’s first prant sanghchalak from 2000 to 2008. His leadership and organizational skills helped elevate the RSS to new heights.
In July 2023, he decided to donate his body for medical research, a decision that reflects his lifelong commitment to service. His passing has left the RSS community and local leaders mourning, but his legacy of simplicity, dedication, and public service continues to inspire.
The RSS family and local leaders such as RSS Prant Pracharaks Sanjay Kumar and Kismat Kumar, as well as other prominent members, expressed deep sorrow over his demise and remembered his immense contribution to the organization.
