Rohingya infiltrators using Assam as conduit to Delhi, Kashmir: Himanta

Infiltrators from Rohingya are utilising Assam as a conduit to travel to Delhi and Kashmir, according to the Chief Minister of Assam. He also stated that investigations carried out in Assam had shown that certain brokers from Tripura were responsible for facilitating the infiltration.

GUWAHATI:

Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, claimed on Friday that brokers in Tripura are assisting infiltrators from Bangladesh known as the Rohingya to utilise the state as a passageway to either Delhi or Kashmir.

Infiltration from Bangladesh into Assam has been nearly nonexistent over the past few years, but Sarma noted some recent actions along the Indo-Bangla border in the Karimganj area while addressing the Superintendents of Police convention in Bongaigaon.

The Rohingyas are currently using Assam as a conduit to travel to Delhi or Kashmir. According to our investigations, several Tripuran brokers aid in this infiltration,” Sarma added.

He said the superintendent of police in Karimganj has been advised to increase vigilance to stop infiltration while the director general of police has already taken some efforts to prevent this.

According to Sarma, “(Authorities of) three districts in Barak Valley should remain active, and we should not just limit ourselves to deporting the identified infiltrators but rather go to Tripura, arrest the brokers, and break the backbone of this syndicate.”

Cachar, Karimgaj, and Hailakandi are the regions’ three districts.

He added proactive measures must be done to stop Rohingya infiltrators, traffickers, and rebels from utilising Assam as a transit route to other states.

The railway police must play a big part in this new, growing crime because the infiltrators primarily use the rail route.

From Barak Valley to Assam’s western border, he stated, “Intelligence should be increased in all railway stations so that the Rohingyas are intercepted and decisive action is taken against them.”

If the scenario calls for it, Assam police should take action in source states and step up monitoring in bus and train stations, Sarma continued.
