He said that now not even a drop of Mahi water will be allowed to go to Gujarat. These 40 TMC water will be stopped and given to Rajasthan only.
This will greatly benefit the farmers of Dungarpur-Banswara district. Malviya told UNI that an agreement was signed between the Government of Rajasthan and Gujarat on January 10, 1966, in which the Government of Gujarat gave 55 percent of the cost for the construction of Mahi Dam.
In return, it was agreed to give 40 TMC of water to Gujarat. Also, the condition of the agreement was that when the water of Narmada reaches Kheda district of Gujarat, then Gujarat will not use the water of Mahi dam of Rajasthan. That water will be used only in Rajasthan. Years ago, the water of Narmada has reached Kheda, but despite this, that agreement is not being followed. Gujarat has been asserting its right.
