Moscow : Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed a readiness to compromise over the ongoing Ukraine conflict during a state TV session on Thursday. He suggested that he would be open to talks with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump to help bring an end to the war, stating that he had no preconditions for initiating discussions with Ukrainian authorities.
Trump, who has long positioned himself as a dealmaker and is the author of the 1987 book Trump: The Art of the Deal, has repeatedly promised to swiftly end the war, though he has not disclosed specifics on how he intends to do so. Putin, speaking with Russian citizens during his annual Q&A session, said he was willing to meet with Trump, whom he claimed to have not spoken with in several years.
When asked if Russia was in a weakened position, Putin dismissed such claims, emphasizing that Russia had grown stronger since the invasion of Ukraine in 2022. “We’ve always said we are ready for negotiations and compromises,” Putin stated, adding that Russian forces were advancing across the front lines and were on track to achieve their key objectives in Ukraine.
Putin’s comments signal a potential shift in Russia’s approach to the conflict, as he continues to face mounting international pressure while navigating a complex geopolitical landscape.
