Farmers Protest to Disrupt State Services, Urge Govt to Stand with Them...
Farmers’ ‘Punjab Bandh’ Brings State to a Standstill
Amritsar: The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) have called for a statewide bandh in Punjab today, leading to a closure of shops and disruptions in road and rail transport. Essential services like emergency care will continue, but milk, fruits, and vegetables will not be supplied until the bandh concludes Monday evening.
The bandh, which has garnered support from various unions, including traders, transporters, and labor organizations, aims to highlight farmers’ ongoing protest against the Centre’s agricultural policies. Farmers, who have been camping at the Shambhu and Khanauri border points since February 13, are also protesting the government’s handling of their leaders, particularly with Jagjit Singh Dallewal’s hunger strike entering its 34th day.
SKM leader Sarwan Singh Pandher emphasized that the government must choose whether to stand with the farmers or use force. He added that any escalation of the situation would be the responsibility of the Centre and constitutional bodies.
