Priyanka slams UP govt over Agra hooch tragedy

Lucknow, Aug 27 (UNI) Congress National General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday once again slammed the Yogi Adityanath government over hooch tragedy in Agra, alleging that state government is shielding the liquor mafia in the state.

She accused the government of giving patronage to liquor mafia in lieu of revenue collected through sale of illicit liquor in Uttar Pradesh. She claimed that the government had no value for the loss of human lives.
“13 people died due to spurious liquor in Agra and the BJP government is kind towards the liquor mafia and the accused responsible for the tragedy. No action is being taken against the mafia. Various incidents took place in the state due to spurious liquor and over 200 persons fell victim just this year but the government is not ready to wake up,” Priyanka, who is also in-charge of Uttar Pradesh, tweeted on Friday.

Priyanka, in her second tweet, said that the BJP government has got a huge hoarding of false propaganda to give jobs. “When the youth asks for a job, the government humiliates and caned them,” she tweeted while accusing the Yogi Government of just making false propaganda of giving jobs to youths by putting big hoardings that too at public expenses.

Meanwhile, the Agra police claimed to have arrested 7 people including two owners of liquor vends in connection with the hooch tragedy that so far claimed 14 lives. After the arrest of the accused, the police claimed that they will soon expose the entire syndicate involved in supply of illicit liquor in the district and adjoining areas. Nine police officials and five Excise officials have been suspended so far in the above matter.
