PowerGrid Acquires Bhadla-III & Bikaner-III Transmission Limited under TBCB
The project is scheduled to be completed within 24 months as per terms of SPV and PowerGrid has a record for completing projects ahead of schedule
Gurugram: Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) – a Maharatna CPSU under Ministry of Power has acquired “Bhadla-III & Bikaner-III Transmission Limited”, the Project Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for the
Transmission System Project for System Strengthening for interconnections of Bhadla-III & Bikaner-III
Complex on Friday. It was acquired from the PFC Consulting Limited (PFCCL) (Bid Process
Coordinator) after competing with various private sector players and emerging as successful bidder in Tariff Based Competitive Bidding process.
Bhadla-III & Bikaner-III Transmission Limited shall implement a Transmission System comprising 765kV D/C, as per company press note.
Transmission Line interconnecting Bhadla-III & Bikaner-III substations and associated bays extension works at these substations in the state of Rajasthan. The transmission system is an Inter State Transmission System Project and is to be commissioned in 24 months.
This high-capacity tie interconnection between Bhadla-III and Bikaner-III PS shall provide flexibility of power
transfer from Bhadla/Bikaner RE clusters as well as increase resiliency of transmission corridor in both the
complexes. Further, the aforementioned project shall also help in meeting additional evacuation requirement
from Bhadla-III PS onwards for some RE generators coming up in the future years.
POWERGRID, through its various Projects SPVs which have been acquired through tariff bidding route, is
implementing various Transmission System Projects being constructed on build, own, operate and transfer
(BOOT) basis. These Projects will augment the Indian transmission infrastructure to evacuate Green Energy to
the National Grid thereby reducing dependency on fossil fuels, in line with Government of India’s vision of
achieving 500 GW renewable energy target by year 2030.
As on 31 st July 2024, POWERGRID has commissioned and is operating 278 Sub-stations and more than 1,77,790
ckm transmission lines and 532,446 MVA of transformation capacity. With the adoption of latest technological
tools and techniques, enhanced use of automation and digital solutions, POWERGRID has been able to
maintain average transmission system availability more than 99.8%.
