Chandigarh : The political temperature in Punjab has risen over former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia’s visit to government schools in the state. The visit, aimed at assessing and promoting the Delhi education model in Punjab, has sparked sharp criticism from opposition parties. They argue that the so-called “successful” Delhi model is flawed and should not be imposed on Punjab’s education system.
Sisodia, who played a key role in reshaping Delhi’s school infrastructure, visited multiple schools in Punjab, interacting with students and teachers. He highlighted the importance of reforms and claimed that Punjab’s government schools could benefit from Delhi’s education policies. However, his visit did not sit well with the opposition, who accused the ruling party of attempting to force a failing model onto Punjab.
Critics argue that while Delhi’s education model is heavily promoted, it has significant drawbacks, including declining learning levels and infrastructural challenges. They claim that instead of blindly implementing another state’s policies, Punjab should focus on its own educational framework and address region-specific challenges. Opposition leaders further stated that such visits are more about political optics than real change.
In response, ruling party leaders defended Sisodia’s visit, asserting that sharing best practices between states benefits students. They emphasized that education should remain free from political biases and that any step towards improving schools should be welcomed.
The debate has now intensified, with both sides standing firm on their views. While supporters see the Delhi model as a progressive step, critics believe Punjab deserves an independent approach to education reforms. The controversy is expected to continue as discussions on Punjab’s education system take center stage in political discourse.
