PM Modi’s Chandigarh Visit: First Time Modi and Shah Will Address the Nation Together, Tight Security Across the City
Chandigarh : Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah are in Chandigarh today for a historic event where they will address the nation together for the first time. The main program will take place at the Punjab Engineering College (PEC) in Sector 12. PM Modi will arrive at the Chandigarh Technical Airport by Air Force plane and then proceed by helicopter to Rajendra Park in Sector 1. From there, he will travel to the PEC campus via road.
Home Minister Amit Shah, who arrived earlier on Monday, will go directly to PEC from Panchkula. Security arrangements are extensive, with multiple roadblocks and security personnel deployed throughout the city. The streets are lined with banners and hoardings promoting the visit of both leaders.
The visit will also feature a live demonstration of the practical application of three new criminal laws—Indian Penal Code, Indian Civil Security Code, and Indian Evidence Act. These laws have already been implemented nationwide, but Chandigarh will be the first Union Territory to fully implement them. The event will showcase the impact these laws are having on the criminal justice system.
No Classes at PEC Today
Due to the visit, PEC has declared a security lockdown from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, during which no classes will be held. Only staff and students with ID cards will be allowed entry through Gate No. 3. A Google form has been circulated for students and faculty who wish to attend the event, with around 100 individuals signed up.
Chandigarh Declared No-Flying Zone
In light of the high-profile visit, the Chandigarh administration has declared a “No Flying Zone” for drones and UAVs today, ensuring the safety of both VVIPs and the public.
This marks the second visit of both PM Modi and Amit Shah to Chandigarh this year, further increasing the city’s significance as a key political hub.
