Parvinder Chauhan has been practicing law at the Punjab and Haryana High Court since 2001. He graduated from Dayal Singh College in Karnal and later pursued his LLB from Delhi University’s prestigious Campus Law Center. Chauhan is known for his commitment to improving the state’s legal framework, and upon his appointment, he emphasized his priority to reduce litigation in Haryana. His appointment comes after a competitive selection process, where other senior advocates such as Chetan Mittal, V.K. Jindal, and Pritam Singh Saini were also considered for the role.

Baldev Mahajan’s tenure as Advocate General set a record in Haryana, as he became the longest-serving AG in the state’s history, holding the position for a continuous ten years. Mahajan’s tenure began under the leadership of former Chief Minister Manohar Lal in November 2014 and continued through multiple political changes. Despite speculation about his departure following the transition of power, Mahajan maintained his position until recently. His decade-long service surpasses the previous record held by Hawa Singh Hooda, who served as AG for a total of 13 years, although not consecutively.

With Chauhan’s appointment, Haryana’s legal landscape is expected to experience a shift in focus, as he aims to streamline the state’s legal procedures and enhance the efficiency of its legal processes.
