Nitin Gadkari inaugurates 2.8 km, 6-lane tunnel between Rewa-Siddhi
Rewa (MP): Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari inaugurated a 2.8 km long tunnel in Madhya Pradesh, on NH 39, built at a cost of about Rs. 1,600 Crores. It will reduce the travel distance between two towns by 7 km and will help protect the wildlife environment in the Mohaniya valley.
Gadkari also inaugurated six other National Highway projects worth Rs 2,444 crore and having a combined length of 204 km besides dedicating to the people Madhya Pradesh’s maiden Rs 1,600-cr, six-lane, 2.28-km-long twin tunnels.
It was officially learnt that Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was among the dignitaries who graced the occasion.
Addressing a gathering here, Mr. Gadkari said, “With creation of the Rewa-Sidhi-Mahaniya
Tunnel and Churhat bypass, the distance between Rewa to Sidhi decreased by 7 km. White tigers, other wildlife and the entire forest ecosystem will be protected. Farmers and other small entrepreneurs shall have easy access to the market.”
The tunnel project is a wonderful marvel of engineering. It has three layers; Road on top, Water Stream below and 2.8 km tunnel at the bottom. Tunnel has 3 lanes each way and 2 points where vehicles can take a U-turn backwards. The project started in December 2018 and has been completed in a record time 35 months.
