The incident took place nearly three years ago, on January 5, 2022, when Prime Minister Modi’s convoy was halted on the road in Firozpur, Punjab. The convoy was stuck for nearly 20 minutes in an unsecured area due to protests by demonstrators, 30 kilometers from the Hussainiwala Border. Following this incident, a case was filed, and now with the addition of Section 307, the case has once again heated up.

One of the accused had sought anticipatory bail from the Firozpur district court, but the court rejected the bail plea, citing the inclusion of Section 307 in the FIR. This new development has caused further controversy surrounding the case. The committee’s investigation led to the addition of this charge, which has significant implications.

What is Section 307?
Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) deals with attempted murder. This section can be applied when someone attempts to cause another person’s death, either intentionally or unintentionally. A conviction under Section 307 can lead to imprisonment of at least 10 years, along with fines, life imprisonment, or even the death penalty.

Incident Details:
On the day of the incident, Prime Minister Modi was on a visit to Firozpur to inaugurate a satellite center at PGI. Due to heavy rainfall, he traveled by road, and during this journey, his convoy was blocked by some miscreants near the Pyara Ana village bridge. The protestors, claiming to be farmers, prevented the Prime Minister from attending the event. The convoy remained stuck for 20 minutes, and later, the Prime Minister had to return to Bathinda airport without attending the event.

The location where the convoy was halted is just 7 kilometers from the India-Pakistan border. Initially, a lighter charge under Section 283 was filed against the accused, but with the investigation now adding Section 307, the case has gained renewed attention.
