NAPA Urges Amit Shah to Grant Martyr Status to Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev
North American Punjabi Association Appeals to Centre to Officially Recognize the Sacrifices of Freedom Fighters..
The North American Punjabi Association (NAPA) has written a letter to India’s Home Minister Amit Shah, urging the government to officially grant martyr status to the legendary freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev. NAPA’s Executive Director, Satnam Singh Chahal, expressed deep concern that despite their immense sacrifices for India’s independence, these iconic revolutionaries have not yet been officially recognized as martyrs.
In the letter, Chahal emphasized that these freedom fighters laid down their lives for the nation’s liberation and their bravery and patriotism deserve the highest recognition from the government. According to the NAPA statement, the martyrdom of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev remains a major source of inspiration for generations of Indians. It is troubling that their sacrifice has not been formally acknowledged, Chahal added.
The letter highlighted the significant role these revolutionaries played in India’s struggle for independence, particularly their ultimate sacrifice on March 23, 1931, when they were executed by the British colonial regime. Their unwavering courage and selfless dedication to the freedom movement marked a pivotal moment in India’s history. Granting them official martyr status would not only honor their sacrifices but also inspire future generations to embrace the values of patriotism and service to the nation.
NAPA has long been dedicated to promoting Punjabi and Indian heritage and ensuring that the contributions of freedom fighters and community leaders receive the recognition they deserve. Chahal concluded the letter by stressing that acknowledging Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev as martyrs would be a fitting tribute to their legacy and a testament to their eternal impact on the nation.
