Multi-storey Building Collapses in Sohana (Mohali), Rescue Operations by NDRF, Army Jawans On
Several residents feared trapped under the fallen walls, roofs and cement blocks
Mohali: A multi-storey building collapsed in the Sohana village of SAS Nagar, Distt, Mohali today afternoon, trapping unknown number of persons. It is learnt it was a 5-storey old building and was occupied by tanents and locals. Local police, and area MLA Kulwant Singh reached the site on hearing ther tragic mishap. A team of army men was called in and soon after NDRF team reached the village and started rescue operations without any delay. The adminstration is not yet able to figure out of exact number of human casualties or persons trapped inside.
Punjab CM S. Bhagwant Mann has issued a statement that rescue operations are being monitored over phone from District Administration. As per the directions of Punjab CM, an Army Column from Western Command had been requested to augment the rescue operations as soon as the news of mishap reached the CMs office.
It is learnt, digging work was going on for a new building adjoining to the collapsed 5-storey building, which might have resulted in the mishap. (with inputs from DPR; more details awaited)
