Monsoon advances to Karnataka, Goa and parts of Maharashtra

New Delhi, Jun 5 (UNI) The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday said that the South West Monsoon has further advanced to central parts of Arabian Sea, entire coastal Karnataka, Goa, some parts of Maharashtra, most parts of north Interior Karnataka, some parts of Telengana and Andhra Pradesh, more parts of Tamil Nadu, more parts of central Bay of Bengal and some parts of northeast Bay of Bengal.
The officials in the IMD said that the Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) passes through lat. 17.0°N/ Long. 60°E, lat. 17.5°N/ Long. 70°E, Harnai, Solapur, Raichur, Kurnool, Tirupati, Cuddalore, lat. 11.5°N/ Long. 81.5°E, 13°N/85°E, 16°N/89°E and 20°N/93.0°E.
The officials also said that Southwest monsoon is very likely to advance further into more central Arabian Sea, some more part of Maharashtra, remaining parts of Karnataka, more parts of Andhra Pradesh, Telengana, remaining parts of Tamil Nadu, more parts of central and northeast Bay of Bengal, some parts of north east Bay of Bengal and northeast India during next 24-hours.
Due to strengthening of lower level southwesterly winds, widespread rainfall activity very likely over Northeastern states during next five days while isolated heavy rainfall very likely over Arunachal Pradesh on June 5,6, and 8, over Assam & Meghalaya during June 5 to 9 and over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on June 5 to 7, the IMD said in a statement.
Under the influence of the off-shore trough at mean sea level from south Maharashtra to south Kerala coast and strengthening of westerly wind in lower tropospheric levels, widespread rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds with isolated heavy falls very likely over Kerala, Tamilnadu and Karnataka during next 24 hours it added.
The national weather bureau also informed that a Western Disturbance as a cyclonic circulation lies over Punjab and adjoining Haryana at 3.1 km above mean sea level with a trough aloft with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level roughly along Long. 72°E to the north of Lat. 26 °N and a cyclonic circulation lies over Haryana and adjoining northwest Rajasthan.
Under the influence of these systems, isolated rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds very likely over parts of Western Himalayan Region and adjoining plains of Northwest India during next 48 hours with strong surface winds of 25-35 kmph likely to prevail over plains of North India on June 8 and 9.
