Mohali Press Club election, turns out a damp squib, in hot polling season across India
Elsewhere in Lok Sabha Elections ’24 Theatre, we have seen many a hot and dramatic events; with two bigwigs of Grand old Congress (RS Bittu, a grandson of ex-CM and Naveen Jindal, son of Industrialist late O.P Jandal) leaving to join BJP, apart from AAP high-pitch protests in Delhi
Mohali (Punjab): ‘ बहुत शोर सुनते थे बाजुओं में लहू का, चीर के देखा तो न एक कतरा ए खूं निकला ‘ 🏋🏼♂️📝✍🏽🤺🏋🏼♂️.
Elections to the new Governing Body in Mohali Press Club for 2024-25, turned out a comparatively calm, peaceful and a bit stage-managed affair. The process started on March 23 was over in just 3 days, as nominations for 9 member GB matched exactly with the posts available. At 1 o’clock on Tuesday, with nominations filing over, the team was in place, though coronation of Punjab’s prominent scribes Club will be held today afternoon. (perhaps members want to spare their time for reporting the ongoing Lok Sabha 2024 elections).
The writer of this story, a new member of the Club, scrambled through the history pages to find a similar short episode or battle for power thru’ franchise, but came across a matching क़ातिल शिफाई शेयर and put across an edited version (a parody) above for the viewers.
The election panel led by Harinder Pal Singh Harry (CEC), Dharam Pal Upashak and Kulvinder Singh Bawa (ECs) will formally announce the winners today afternoon, when options for withdrawals are exhausted.
The new MC team in place is almost a reshuffled version of the outgoing outfit with veteran journalist turned Corporator Sukhdev Singh Patwari taking over Presidency and Gurmeet Singh Shahi (Punjabi Jagran) getting General Secretary post in a mutual movement, up-down. Rest of the team comprises some promotions (or demotions) and one member on board leaving space to a new colt in the GB, in the 133 plus member scribes’ Club. Sushil Garcha of IBN 24×7 gets Senior Vice President post, Rajiv Taneja (Dainik Tribune) gets Vice President chair, Dharam Singh (MH One-new VP), Neelam Thakur (Diviya Himachal) is Organising Secretary, Vijay Kumar (TriCity Reporter) and May Ram (Desh Sewak) are Jt. Secretaries and Manjit Singh Chana (Rozana Reporter & Punjabi Duniya) gets to control Finances, leaving the Sr. VP post held earlier.
The two decade old Club has plans to shift to its own premises, subject to Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann of Aam Aadmi Party, fulfilling his promises before demitting his office, as AAP is known for making big promises and fulfilling just in trickles.
Mohali Press Club organised its grand festival, Dheeyan Di Lohri in the second week of January 2024, a religio-cultural event of North India, was very well attended by prominent political dignitaries and government officials and members; families.
Hope the new team keeps the tempo, organises more events and maintains a numero uno status among region’s professional bodies. (Editor)
