Mohali Press Club celebrates ‘Dhiyan Di Lohri’, a gala culture mela !
Mohali (Punjab): Punjab’s premier media organisation Mohali Press Club celebrated the religious-cultural function of Punjab Lohri last evening. Called as ‘Dhiyan Di Lohri’, is being celebrated by Punjab media persons of the region for last 18 years and is devoted to the Daughters, who are no longer an ignored section of the family now.
Dhiyan, ‘the girl students’ who scored 90percent plus marks in Sr. Sec. exams last year were given prizes and those daughters born in 2023 were given gifts by the organisers.
A procession carrying traditional Lohri ‘candies, moongfali and revadis,’ with folk songs led by artists and political leaders along with the senior Club honchos launched the festivities at the venue followed by religious bonfire and ‘lohri ahuties’ , consigning evils and such deities to pious god of fire, as also signifying end of chilly season.
The gala event was presided over by local MLA Kulwant Singh and state minister for Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Sr. Gurmeet Singh Khudian was Chief Guest. Smt. Ashika Jain DC Mohali, Dr. Sandeep Garg SSP Mohali, Smt. Prabhjot Kaur Chairman Distt. Planning Board, Sr. Jodha Singh Mann Senior leader of AAP, and senior officials Dr. Gurmail Singh and Sr. Jasvirpal Singh among others were important invitees to the ‘Diyan Di Lohri’.
Though Lohri festival of Punjab and North India is known to be end the chilly winter seasons, it is no longer following the schedule as winter fog has engulfed Mohali and tricity for the last two weeks and residents are forced to stay home, with schools shut down until January 15.
President of the Club Gurmeet Singh Shahi, Manjit Singh Chana, General Secretary Sukhdev Singh Patwari and MC members together released the Annual Club calendar 2024. Lohri Mela was followed by a cultural program conducted by popular TV and stage artists including Romi Ranjan, Ekam Chanouli, Vicky Paliwal, Sukhpreet Kaur and others upstaged the mood of media fraternity and guests at the gala evening.
