Modi’s Visit to PEC: Road Closures and Traffic Diversions in Chandigarh
Several Roads Closed and Traffic Diverted Due to PM's Visit to PEC, Heavy Security Deployed
Chandigarh : In preparation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the Punjab Engineering College (PEC) in Chandigarh on Tuesday, several major roads in the city will remain closed, and traffic will be diverted on others. The police conducted a final rehearsal on Monday, closing certain roads including Airport Light Point, Transport Chowk, and Rajindra Park to PEC. As a result, commuters faced traffic jams on some routes. To ensure the PM’s security, over 4,000 security personnel have been deployed throughout the city. The police have urged the public to check the route plan before heading out to avoid getting stuck in traffic jams.
Road Closures Due to Rehearsals and VVIP Movements
As part of the rehearsal for the event, the Central Home Minister’s stay in Chandigarh was shifted to a rest house in Panchkula, which led to road closures from Airport Light Point to Tribune Chowk, and from Tribune Chowk to Transport Light Point. Traffic remained disrupted between 9:15 PM and 10:30 PM, though traffic police were stationed along these routes, and traffic lights were manually controlled.
Route Plan for Today
On Tuesday, from 11 AM to 3 PM, several roads including Dhillon Light Point to AP Chowk (Sector 7/8-18/19), Airport Light Point to New Labour Chowk (Sector 20/21-33/34), and from New Labour Chowk to Heera Singh Chowk will be closed or diverted during the VVIP movement. Drivers are advised to avoid these routes during this period. Additionally, some other roads may also be restricted or diverted due to the VVIP movement.
Security Measures in Place
To ensure the security of the Prime Minister’s program, over 4,000 personnel, including officials from Chandigarh, Haryana, Punjab, and several central agencies, have been deployed. The area surrounding the PEC program venue and the Raj Bhavan has been heavily fortified. Monitoring teams, including around 10 IPS officers and 25+ DSPs, are keeping a close watch.
