Mansoor Khan Reveals Mixed Feelings About Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Admits He Was Dissatisfied with the Film
Filmmaker Mansoor Khan, the cousin of actor Aamir Khan, has opened up about his mixed emotions regarding the 1988 hit Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (QSQT), a film that marked his directorial debut and catapulted Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla to stardom. In a rare interview, Mansoor shared that despite the film’s overwhelming success, he was never fully satisfied with how it turned out.
Speaking on the India Now and How YouTube channel, Mansoor revealed that even though QSQT launched Aamir’s career, he wasn’t pleased with the script and its execution. “I was so upset after the first trial; I was telling my father, ‘We need to reshoot the scenes, they’re so bad,'” he said. Despite his objections, his father and producer Nasir Husain dismissed his concerns, confident the film would resonate with audiences—a sentiment that turned out to be correct.
Mansoor also spoke about his initial work on Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, the sports drama that followed QSQT. He admitted that he originally conceptualized the story with Aamir in mind for the lead role, but later realized the script wasn’t right for the actor at that stage of his career. “I would’ve destroyed Aamir’s career if I had made it at that time,” Mansoor confessed. Thankfully, the original draft wasn’t produced, and the film was eventually reworked.
Reflecting on his journey as a filmmaker, Mansoor said, “Even today, I feel that I should have shot those scenes differently.” However, he also acknowledged that his father, Nasir Husain, had a better understanding of what the audience wanted, which was something Mansoor came to appreciate later.
Now living a more reclusive life in Tamil Nadu as a farmer, Mansoor occasionally works on films when Aamir asks for his help, including involvement in his nephew Junaid Khan’s upcoming romantic film.
Despite the hurdles and his self-criticism, Mansoor Khan’s contributions to Indian cinema, especially in the 80s and 90s, remain a key part of Bollywood’s rich history.
