Thiruvananthapuram: The very rare 10-day ‘Maha Kalika Yagam,’ 4,000-year-old ritual inscripted in Vedas for appeasing Goddess Kali to reduce the ill effects of ‘Kali Yuga’, concluded here on Monday night. The Yagam concluded in the presence of several Aghoris led by ‘1008 Maha Mandleshwar Chief’ Kailashpuri of Kashi, who arrived here to attend the Yagam from May 7 to 16. The ‘Maha Kalika Yagam’ was performed with oblation of 303 rare Ayurvedic medicinal plants and 10,000 kg ghee at Pournamikkavu temple here in the presence of chief priests from 51 Shakti Peethas across the country. Earlier, the rare Ayurvedic medicinal plants were collected from various South Indian States. Several sacred materials were brought here to offer in the sacred fire from 12 Jyotirlinga temples across the country. Three fire-altars (havan kund) were made of 12,000 bricks (Ishtiaka) to perform the Yagam. Maha Kalika Yagam was held at Pournamikkavu temple where 51 goddesses named after 51 Malayalam language alphabets were installed for the first time in India. (UNI)
