Lawrence Bishnoi Interview Controversy: DSP Dismissal Likely
Punjab Government Takes Action....
Chandigarh: Monday during a hearing at the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The Punjab DGP informed the court that Lawrence had been detained at the Kharar CIA Police Station for nearly five months. The government has also decided to dismiss suspended DSP Gurshar Singh, with the Chief Minister’s approval. The file has been forwarded to the Punjab Public Service Commission for further action.
During the hearing, the court questioned the DGP about the basis of his claim that the interview did not occur in Punjab’s prisons. The court criticized the DGP for prematurely clearing Punjab’s jails, which are not under his direct control. The court also raised concerns about the process followed for Lawrence’s interviews, noting that while he was held at Kharar CIA Station, he was only in Bathinda Jail for less than two months.
The High Court further remarked that the DGP’s affidavit was unsatisfactory and ordered him to file a revised affidavit. The court also questioned why the SSP had not been suspended, with the Advocate General responding that there was no direct involvement of the SSP, although both the SSP and an SP have been issued show-cause notices. In addition, the Punjab government assured that by February, all 13 sensitive jails would be under CCTV surveillance, with installations already underway in 7 of them.
