Large amounts of Opium, Poppy plants destroyed by Police in Manipur

Imphal: Manipur Police have destroyed 50 acres of poppy plantation in different operations during the last 24 hours.
About 2.5 kg of liquid juice (opium) was recovered and two village chiefs were also arrested.
About 35 acres were found planted with poppy plants at Kholmunlen and Khongtal area in Chakpikrong Sub-division at Indo-Myanmar border.
During the destruction drive, poppy juice (Opium) packed in a plastic polythene was also recovered from a hut. The team also burnt down about ten huts. The joint team has been camping at a nearby Assam Rifles camp to destroy poppy plants.
In Saikul, Kangpokpi district another combined team destroyed around 15 acres of poppy plantation. Kangpokpi police also arrested two village Chiefs identified as Satlal Khongsai and Satkhohao Kipgen regarding the plantation of poppy plants.
