LAC action was ‘whole of nation effort’: Gen Naravane
New Delhi: Former Indian Army Chief Gen MM Naravane on Monday said that India’s resolute action which denied the Chinese any advantage at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Eastern Ladakh was a “whole of nation effort.”
He also termed the coordination between Indian Army and the IAF “top class” while dealing with India’s adversaries.
The former Army Chief was speaking at the launch of two books authored by senior defence journalists Mukesh Kaushik and Sanjay Singh here in the city.
“Whatever action was taken, was a ‘whole of nation effort’. At the peak of tensions, the three Service Chiefs used to meet at my office everyday at 9 am,” he said.
Gen Naravane also hailed the coordination between the Indian Army and the IAF during actions against India’s adversaries, terming it “top class”.
“If the IAF had not been with us, the action wouldn’t have been possible,” he said.
He jokingly said that if the former IAF Chief Air Chief Marshal RK Bhadauria has clocked over 4000 hours of flying, he himself has walked more than 4000 kms.
The former Army Chief also praised Indian soldiers saying they are the real strength of Indian Army.
“No action was possible, if we didn’t have good soldiers,” he said.
“Throughout the winter, they held the front,” the General said praising the Indian soldiers deployed in harsh weather in Eastern Ladakh to counter the presence of the Chinese PLA.
India has deployed 50,000 troops with heavy weaponry including artillery guns, main battle tanks, Akash air defense systems, quick reaction surface-to-air missile systems etc at eastern Ladakh.
Mukesh Kaushik has authored ‘Bharat Cheen LAC Takrav (Inside story)’ on China’s advances in Eastern Ladakh. He has also co-authored the other book with Sanjay Singh titled ‘IAF Strikes @0328 hours’ on India’s surgical strike on Jaish e Mohammed camp inside Pakistan.(UNI)
