Kerala HC interdicts Governor from nominating new senate members
Kochi: Kerala High Court on Friday interdicted Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan from nominating any new members to the Senate of Kerala University.
Passing an interim order, Justice Murali Purushothaman posted the matter for further hearing on October 31.
Earlier, in an extraordinary move in connection with the appointment of a new Vice Chancellor to the Kerala University, the Kerala Governor issued an order sacking 15 senate members of the University.
The Governor, who is also the chancellor of the University, directed Kerala University Vice Chancellor VP Mahadevan Pillai to remove the senate members for their absence at a recent meeting held on October 11 to nominate a member on the search committee.
However, the University rebuffed the Governor’s direction saying that the removal of the senate members would be violative of rules.
The court passed the interim order while considering a plea challenging the Governor’s decision to sack the Senate members.
