Controversial political drama gains momentum at the box office despite protests….
Mumbai : Kangana Ranaut’s political drama Emergency has made a strong debut at the domestic box office, earning Rs 7.39 crore in just two days. The film, where Ranaut portrays former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, depicts the tumultuous 21 months of Emergency from 1975 to 1977.
On its opening day, Emergency grossed Rs 3.11 crore, followed by Rs 4.28 crore on Saturday. Despite facing controversies regarding its portrayal of the Sikh community and a delayed release, the film has sparked significant discussions.
The movie’s screenings were restricted in Punjab after protests by Sikh organizations and political groups, calling for a ban. Ranaut criticized these actions, claiming they were an attack on art and freedom of expression.
Emergency also stars Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, Milind Soman, and the late Satish Kaushik.
