Jalandhar : In a major crackdown on unauthorized constructions, the Jalandhar Municipal Corporation (JMC)demolished a commercial complex that was illegally built in the city. The operation was carried out on Wednesday following multiple notices issued to the building owner for violating municipal regulations. Additionally, several shops within the complex were sealed late at night to prevent any further commercial activities.

According to municipal officials, the demolished complex had been constructed without obtaining the necessary approvals from the authorities. Despite repeated warnings and legal notices, the owner continued commercial operations, leading to strict action by the administration. The move comes as part of JMC’s broader efforts to curb illegal encroachments and unauthorized buildings that pose safety and legal concerns.

Eyewitnesses reported that the demolition process began early in the morning under heavy police security to prevent any disruption. The officials used bulldozers and other heavy machinery to dismantle the illegal structure. Meanwhile, shopkeepers operating within the complex were asked to vacate their premises immediately, and their establishments were sealed late at night.

Municipal Commissioner Rajat Oberoi stated that the administration is committed to taking strict action against all unauthorized constructions in Jalandhar. He further warned property owners against violating building laws and assured that similar actions will continue in the coming weeks. “No one will be allowed to flout the city’s regulations. Illegal constructions not only violate laws but also pose serious risks to public safety,” he added.

Local shopkeepers expressed mixed reactions to the demolition. While some supported the move, stating that illegal constructions create unfair competition, others criticized the administration for acting suddenly without providing ample time for relocation. Some business owners also claimed that they were unaware of the illegality of the complex when they rented spaces.

The Jalandhar Municipal Corporation has been actively cracking down on unauthorized buildings in the city, issuing strict guidelines and carrying out demolitions wherever necessary. This latest action is seen as a warning to other illegal property owners, reinforcing that no violations will be tolerated.

Authorities have urged citizens to verify legal clearances before constructing or purchasing properties to avoid legal troubles. They also hinted at a series of upcoming inspections to identify and dismantle more unauthorized structures across the city.

As JMC intensifies its efforts to maintain urban planning and regulatory compliance, the focus remains on ensuring that the city develops in a lawful and organized manner. The administration has also requested residents to report any illegal constructions in their vicinity to help curb such violations more effectively.
