Jakhar: Kejriwal should not interfere in Punjab

Chandigarh: Former MP and BJP leader Sunil Jakhar on Monday said to bail Punjab out of shock suffered due to broad daylight murder of singer turned politician Sidhu Moosewala, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann needed to stop interfering in the state police affairs.
The BJP leader said CM Mann had advised MLAs to not interfere in police set up but was not practicing what he preached.
He said that the AAP government should offer an apology and clarify why the list of 424 persons who were deprived of security cover was released to the media for publication.
“A judicial inquiry needs to be ordered to fix responsibility for the breach in such sensitive issues when intelligence agencies had put the state on alert about the gangs working under the dictates of ISI and other foreign agencies. It was unfortunate that the murder of a popular Punjabi singer was projected as gag war. It was a collapse of the law-and-order situation,” he said.
About the withdrawal of security of VIPs in Punjab, Jakhar said let Punjab Police review the situation in an unbiased, non-political and professional manner. Security to senior religious and social leaders who were at high risk should be restored without delay.
“To prevent the re-occurrence of shocking incidents, hard steps need to be taken. People had reasons to believe that the AAP government in Punjab was emerging as an event management company that attached priority to publicity stunts instead of doing administrative business. If someone in a jail or living in Canada can manage murders in Punjab, where was the governance that AAP promised during polls,” he asked. (UNI)
